What’s happening in the sky?
This retrograde period is November 9-29 with Mercury in the signs of Sagittarius back to Scorpio. In addition, Jupiter in Cancer goes retrograde November 11 and Mercury Rx and Mars play patty cake in conjunction within orb until November 17th. This transit is of particular interest to me because my natal Mercury is in Sagittarius within orb of conjunction (2 degrees) of my Uranus. Cancer also rules my sixth house and cusps the seventh. My natal moon placement opposing my sun swings in the early degrees of Cancer. I was prepared to experience this with the usual snafus and technical delays, but to also sit with becoming clearer with storytelling.
The Stories We Tell Ourselves…do they belong to us?
Sagittarius is the traditional ruler of the 9th house. This house is home of travel, higher learning, religion, and spirituality. More specifically, if we think about the ninth house as home of Sagittarius and Jupiter, I am moved to bring up how our ancestors would have experienced that time of the season. The wheel turns towards winter, the weather is colder and we approach the longest night of the year. It is dark. I imagine them huddled together for warmth, possibly around a fire, and coming to terms with whether or not there is enough in storage to survive the winter. This is a time when the exchange of stories to pass the time might emerge more because, well, when it’s dark and cold, what else are you able to do? Myths are passed down through lineages. Tall tales are weaved through imaginations. The storyteller in us all may emerge, wanting to be witnessed.
Spiritually speaking, the 9th house is also where personal ideals and beliefs come in contact with the collective subconscious in the 8th house and give birth to our philosophies that connect us with larger communities. The 9th house is a place I may look to for cycles that may need to be reevaluated, or severed completely. What stories are we allowing to be a part of our legacy? When I say stories, I mean the things we tell ourselves and/or have learned from others/culture/society. Do you actually believe that being fat is a marker of laziness? Where did that come from? What is it’s origin?
While stories may seem like more of an “air sign thing”, the act of storytelling is a part of our creation life force. It impacts our health and well-being. It affects our interactions with others. And, it is mutable because it can change. That change can be a literal retelling, or it can be a transformation of the world within/outside of us. Alchemy. And, if we are looking at this from a Sacred Shadow or decolonial lens, what have we been told is truth that no longer resonates? What does our body do to show us that a story no longer aligns?
Mercury in Sagittarius is Mercury as psychopomp. Mercury, with winged feet, moves through the Underworld, looking for places, faces, and things that seem forgotten and lost. Our outer world is disrupted when an important call is dropped. Was this something you put out of sight and mind until the last minute? But, what happens when you go a bit deeper? What is behind the annoyance? Where does that live in your body? Have you experienced it before? These are the kind of mythosomatic1 questions that will inevitably lead you to the original story you were told. And now, in this season, you get to decide if you want to transmute, retell, or delete.
Questions to Hold:
Remember that Sagittarius new moon during Sagittarius Season last year? What were you seeding? What were the fruits in Gemini Season of this year? With Jupiter in Rx now as well, something that is coming to mind are the cards associated with the first decan of Sagittarius, Temperance and 8 of Wands. 8 of Wands is fast moving energy and messaging. Temperance brings into the chat how to allow energy to flow in balance. Think less scales and more of the ouroboros. What messaging is on autopilot? Are you able to sit with that energy and ask what might temper it?
P.S. I have very limited Mercury Rx Readings available. You can get one here:Mercury Rx Reading.
This is a word I first heard from Ash Stinson, an incredible energy worker. You can check out their work at https://ashleystinson.com/.
