I am full of excitement to bring you this episode, listeners. Fat is a bad word in our society, even now. And, a large part of the reason why we have not progressed is because there is a deep fear of memory in our society. What do I mean by this?
As a society, the truth of the iniation of the US has been kept hidden. We are not allowed to teach it in schools. DEI initiatives are being forced by our goverment to close. This country is built upon the wound of white supremacy. Whiteness was the way in which enslavers justified enslavement of Africans and the abliteration of the Native Indigenous of this land. What does this have to do with fat?
Fatphobia was a way to control white women and keep them subservient to the white patriarchy. Fatphobia was created to seperate white women from the enslaved African women. They had to find a way that whiteness could be further upheld as superior, and the white patriarchy found that in demonizing and shaming fatness as bad, even evil and a moral failure. 1
The truth is, fat is a holder of memory and can be a key player in our healing and integration journey. I look forward to hearing your thoughts. Please share them in the comments!
